David

David Coupe was for many years the founding and senior partner of the law Firm Coupe Bradbury

He spent the first 18 years of his long career in the law establishing a generally based family law Firm in Kirkham which under his leadership experienced exponential growth.

He moved across to Lytham in 1987 in order to serve a developing Fylde coast connection. During the years that followed, the Lytham Office built up a reputation for its expertise in private client law serving clients throughout the North West of England. This private client connection, specialising in Wills, Probate, Family Trusts, Inheritance Tax planning and Disabled Persons Trusts was led by David and Emma Gadsden. Emma joined David as an outstanding and gifted trainee 20 years ago and since then has received many accolades for her expertise in private client law.

In November 2020 the decision was taken to transfer the private client department of Coupe Bradbury into a new Firm Gadsden Coupe led by David and Emma. The department had experienced substantial growth. The whole of Coupe Bradbury’s private client team moved across to this new Firm. This enabled the new Firm to concentrate exclusively on its private client offering, supported by a team of eight lawyers all specialising in private client law plus ancillary property work. The senior lawyers in the team are members of the internationally recognised Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). STEP membership is gained only after applicants have successfully completed very demanding examination requirements.

In addition to his knowledge of private client law David has built up a reputation for his experience and knowledge in the specialised area of charity law. Over many years he has given guidance and assistance to a large number of charities, some large and others small local charities. His specialised experience led to the establishment of both the Lowther Gardens in Lytham and the Lytham Institute as charities. He took a leading role, alongside others, in the campaign to save Blackpool’s Grand Theatre from demolition in the early seventies. He was Chair of the Theatre for a number of years. Arising from this experience he took a leading role in the community campaign to acquire Lytham Hall and was a founding trustee of the Lytham Town Trust. He has for many years acted as honorary solicitor for the Lytham St.Annes Civic Society.

David believes passionately in the duty imposed on all lawyers to protect and look after the communities they serve to the very best of their abilities. That way freedom and happiness lies.
